The 6th annual Before I Die New Mexico Festival will take place in Albuquerque with six days of death-positive conversations and experiences October 16 to 21, 2023, at several locations around Albuquerque. The Festival has entertaining and educational elements, including field trips to funeral homes and cemeteries, speakers and panel discussions, hands-on workshops, Death Cafe conversations, and more.

The 6th annual Before I Die New Mexico Festival will take place in Albuquerque with six days of death-positive conversations and experiences October 16 to 21, 2023, at several locations around Albuquerque. Selected sessions will be available online as hybrid events, with audiences participating both in-person and via Zoom.

The Festival has entertaining and educational elements, including field trips to funeral homes and cemeteries, speakers and panel discussions, hands-on workshops, Death Cafe conversations, and more. Online sessions will be professionally coordinated by Keeper, which provides in-person and virtual memorial services and online memorial pages. Festival events include:

  • Comedy Performance: Ben Wasserman’s Live After Death show, Friday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. at French Funerals & Cremations location at 1275 Unser Blvd. NE, Rio Rancho, NM.
  • Death Cafe Discussions: daily opportunities to discuss mortality questions in a supportive environment.
  • Newly-Dead® Games: Bingo and The Game for Couples and Singles makes death education an upbeat experience.
  • Movie Night at the Funeral Home: feature-length films to laugh and learn about end-of-life.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Tours of sponsors’ locations and discussions of products and services.
  • Millennial Morticians with ABQ Brews: a panel discussion at Tractor Brewing Wells Park location on Thursday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m. This year's young funeral professionals will be all women - the Femme Fatale edition!
  • Mortuary Mall: a collection of funeral products and services for attendees to browse and learn taking place at Sunset Memorial Park on Wednesday, October 18.
  • Murder and Mayhem Cemetery Tour: this walking tour on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. features true stories of deaths of people buried at Historic Fairview Cemetery/. This fundraiser for the nonprofit organization has separate ticketing.
  • Informative Speakers: sessions on obituary writing, estate and financial planning, downsizing, death and the afterlife, history and new trends in death care, grief, and more.
  • Virtual Audiences: Sessions with speakers will be available as hybrid events with in-person audiences and online participants, thanks to Festival sponsor Keeper. Videos will be made available after the festival.

  • $20 – A token of thanks for coordinating the Festival, includes a goodie bag with A Good Goodbye DVD set.
  • $40 – Includes a T-shirt from A Good Goodbye.
  • $60 – Includes registration for comedian Ben Wasserman’s Live After Death Show.
  • $80 – Includes registration for the Murder and Mayhem Cemetery Tour.
  • $100 – Includes a copy of A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die.

$50 - registration for the Murder and Mayhem tour, a fundraiser for Historic Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, October 21. Choose 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. tour.

A portion of the sponsorship proceeds and ticket sales from the Before I Die NM Festival will be donated to 501(c)(3) charitable partner, Historic Fairview Cemetery, established in Albuquerque in 1881. The cemetery is the final resting place of 12,000 individuals, with remarkable stories reflecting the history of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the United States of America.
