NFDA 2014 LogoThe National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) convention kicked off last night with a welcoming party at the Wild Horse Saloon in downtown Nashville. A total of 1,150 funeral directors, exhibitors, and other industry folks crowded the iconic three-story nightclub in an old warehouse building. It was quite the scene!

The first continuing education session I sat in on was “Breathing Life Into Funeral Home Marketing with Facebook, TV … and a Sense of Humor.” Traditional funeral home director Brad Speaks, with Speaks Family Legacy Chapels in Independence, MO, a suburb of Kansas City, gave an outstanding presentation on what their funeral home did to really stand out and become approachable.

Their TV ads with humor  encouraged pre-need planning – because if you don’t do it, a crazy cast of characters may wind up doing it for you. More details – with videos – to come.

The expo opens at noon today, with hundreds of exhibitors displaying their wares. Looking forward to bringing you glimpses of the Tools of the Trade being shown at this NFDA convention!
