It was standing room only in room H-129 at Central New Mexico Community College on Monday. Psychology teacher Jim Johnson had invited me to present one of my funny film clip talks to his students in the Death & Dying class.
Exit Strategies: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die covered recent developments regarding physician aid in dying, why many people avoid using the “D” word, patient autonomy when facing cancer, the role of bell ringers as obituarists in the Middle Ages, and funeral planning tips. Television and film clips came from Breaking Bad, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Patch Adams, Checking Out, Just Buried and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.
The talk was open to the entire campus community and the public, as part of CNM’s Speaker Series.
Because of license restrictions, the film clips are not included in this video, just the parts where Gail Rubin is speaking.
