Laughing in the Face of Death: Colorado Funeral Home Hosts Upbeat Funeral Planning Talk in Advance of Frozen Dead Guy Days
“Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, and talking about funerals won’t make you dead – and your family will benefit from the conversation.” – Gail Rubin
Longmont, CO, February 18, 2014 – Longmont’s Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Home is hosting Laughing in the Face of Death, an upbeat talk that illustrates funeral planning issues with clips from comedy films and television programs. The hour-long talk by Gail Rubin, CT, will be held Thursday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel at 503 Terry Street, Longmont.
Popcorn and beverages will be served at this free talk. A showing of Hotel Transylvania, a 91-minute animated family film, will follow Laughing in the Face of Death.
Gail Rubin, The Doyenne of Death®, is returning to Boulder County for the fourth year in a row to conduct The Newly-Dead Game® at Nederland’s Frozen Dead Guy Days festival. She’ll also show the documentary, “Grandpa’s in the TUFF SHED” and cryonic film clips from Sleeper, Star Wars, and the cartoon TV series, Futurama.
The Newly-Dead Game is similar to the TV game show The Newlywed Game, but the questions test how well couples know each other’s last wishes. Couples are encouraged to sign up in advance to play for free at the Black Forest Restaurant. Games will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m.
Rubin is a Certified Thanatologist (a death educator) who uses funny films to help start serious conversations. She’s an award-winning speaker, TV & radio show host, and author of A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die.
Rubin’s appearance at the 2014 Frozen Dead Guy Days festival is sponsored by Compassion & Choices (www.CompassionAndChoices.org) and Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services (www.Carroll-Lewellen.com).
