Psalms for Funerals: The 25th

Jun 7, 2011 | 0 comments

Continuing the psalms for funerals series with Psalm 25. This psalm is a plea for guidance, especially in the dark times after a loved one dies,

It provides a reminder of the covenant God makes with those who believe. And like the 23rd, this makes references to helping deal with enemies.

A Psalm of David.

Unto You, O God, I lift up my soul.

O my God, I trust in you: let me not be ashamed, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

Let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

Show me your ways, O God; teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth, and teach me: for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all the day.

Remember, O God, your tender mercies and your lovingkindnesses; for they are from of old.

Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to your mercy remember me for your goodness’ sake, O God.

Good and upright is the Eternal who will teach sinners in the way.

The humble God guides in judgment: and God teaches the humble the way of the Eternal.

All the paths of the Eternal are mercy and truth to those who keep God’s covenant and testimonies.

For your name’s sake, O God, pardon my iniquity; for it is great.

What man is he that fears the Eternal? Him shall God teach in the way that God shall choose.

His soul shall dwell at ease; and his descendants shall inherit the earth.

The secret of the Eternal is with them that fear God; and God will show them the covenant.

My eyes are ever toward the Eternal; for God shall pluck my feet out of the net.

Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

The troubles of my heart are enlarged: bring me out of my distresses!

Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

Consider my enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

Keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in you.

Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait for You.

Redeem Israel, O God, out of all their troubles!

A Good Goodbye
