New Mexico in Focus logoHow many times have you pulled up your Facebook feed to see news from a friend or acquaintance about a loved one dying? Receiving the support of your online community at a time of loss is a growing trend.

Tune in this Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. MT to NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS for a discussion of how social media is changing the way we process grief and tragedy. Facebook and Twitter are becoming the new obituary page.

Correspondent Gwyneth Doland speaks with Gail Rubin, author of the book and website “A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning For Those Who Don’t Plan To Die,” and Ann Beyke, an Albuquerque-based pet loss counselor, about how Facebook and Twitter are changing our approach to death and loss.

KNME-TV produces New Mexico PBS’ one-hour public affairs show. NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS regularly airs Fridays at 7 p.m. and repeats Sundays at 7 a.m. on Channel 5.1, and Saturdays at 5 p.m. on Channel 9.1. The program can also be viewed online at www.newmexicopbs.org.

Hosted by Gene Grant, NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS takes a multi-layered look at social, political, economic, health, education and arts issues and explores them in-depth, with a critical eye to give them context beyond the “news of the moment.”
