CRäKN, a website that helps funeral directors manage their funeral homes, save time, prevent duplicate work and reduce errors, recently interviewed me about fresh ideas for communications and community outreach on funeral planning issues. They made these two posts out of one interview.
The post, Humor, Funny Films & In-Depth Knowledge: Unconventional Ways to Start Funeral Planning Conversations with Families, includes these three tips:
1. Humor can be a tool to encourage people to talk about death.*
2. Think outside the box to spur pre-need planning.
3. Get creative to make your funeral home more accessible.
What Do You Learn After Attending 90 Funerals in 90 Days? covered my experiences over three years with my 30 Funerals in 30 Days project. It highlights some of the most creative and moving events I witnessed. Those included a biker funeral, a memorial luncheon in a bowling alley bar, and a very personalized memorial service at a funeral home chapel.
Going to 90 funerals in 90 days has shown that meaning, creativity and the ability to celebrate a loved one are unique experiences.
