Saturday 5pm game couples

Newly-Dead Game couples at Frozen Dead Guy Days 2018, Saturday 5:00 p.m.

Since 2011, The Newly-Dead Game® has been a feature of the wild and wacky Frozen Dead Guy Days Festival. At the 2018 event, four different couples competed in three sessions of the game.

The Newly-Dead Game® tests how well couples know their partners’ last wishes. Each session takes about 20 minutes to complete with four couples playing. An emcee (in this case, game creator Gail Rubin) explains the rules:

  1. The emcee will ask all four couples four questions related to the participants’ last wishes.
  2. Each participant is to answer what they think would be their partner’s preferences – not their own.
  3. Participants should use a separate sheet of paper for each answer, so we don’t spoil the surprise for the other questions.
  4. Questions are worth 5, 10 or 15 points. The harder the question, the more points you get when you get it right. If both individuals in that couple get the right answer, they get 10, 20 or 30 points for that question. If just one person gets the answer right, the couple gets 5, 10 or 15 points. If neither gets a right answer, the couple gets zero points for that question.
  5. Order of questions:
    1. Question 1 should be a 5-pointer (easy, to get things rolling)
    2. Question 2 should also be a 5-pointer (though a 10-pointer is okay)
    3. Question 3 should be a 10-pointer (getting harder as we go)
    4. Question 4 should be a 15-pointer (hardest questions also give last place couples a chance to catch up and win)

Newly-Dead Game LogoThe emcee will ask all four of the questions before having the participants share their individual responses.

  • Once the answers for all four questions are written, review each answer – one question at a time – with each couple. Complete each Q&A with every couple before reviewing the next question.
  • For each couple, repeat/restate the question, ask one person what their answer is, then ask the partner to show what they wrote down. Then switch and pose the question to the other person and ask the partner what they wrote down.
  • If there’s a question regarding the acceptability of an answer, ask the audience to decide by voicing their approval or disapproval.
  • Add up the scores and declare one couple the winner of The Newly-Dead Game®! Give them the top prize and offer runner-up couples a lesser prize for their participation.

In a first, all four couples playing the game on Sunday, March 11 got the exact same score! Everyone got the same top prizes, a copy of the TV interview series, A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die, on a 4-DVD set.

Thanks to 2018 sponsors EternityGardens.com and Everest Funeral Concierge Services for making this possible.

If you’d like to get your own digital copy of The Newly-Dead Game®, it’s available as a digital download for $24.97. Learn more and order here.
