This Pearls Before Swine cartoon shows the need to use the “D” word instead of euphemisms. Yep, I’m talking about death, to die, died, dying, and dead.
Goat says, “Hey, Neighbor Bob. Thought I’d stop by and see how you and your wife are doing.”
“The Angels took her,” says Bob. “Oh, my God. She died?” asks Goat.
“No, no. The Los Angeles Angels gave her a stadium job. I need to find a better way to say that.”
“She went to work for the Angels” would be more specific and less prone to misinterpretation.
