This Pickles cartoon has Earl pondering living to the age of 100. But then he thinks, “…maybe it’d be better to check out while I’m still not a burden to anyone. And then I think, heck, I’ve always been a burden to someone, so why should I stop now?” And then he wonders why dinner isn’t ready yet. Yay, Earl!
This Pearls Before Swine cartoon has Rat encouraging Pig to live for today, eat all the junk food you want, even though Pig notes it may cut ten years off your life. Rat asks, “Are those the ten years when you’re all by yourself and everything hurts and nobody visits you?” Pig is convinced, “Longevity is for suckers.” They raise a really good point.
My personal favorite is this Roz Chast cartoon, with a headstone reading “I can’t believe I ate all that kale for NOTHING.” May you make the most of your life, today, and every day. Eat what you like, you’re still going to die.
