With the growing U.S. cremation rate, there’s a growing market for creative urns to hold cremated remains. Sacbé Urns from Mexico brought a host of their handmade urns for people and pets to the 2018 convention and expo of the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association.

In the video below, Daniel Aguilar, North America Director for Sacbé, shows the wide range of colorful urns in styles that include hand-painted ceramics, mosaic glass, wooden boxes of varying shapes and finishes, keepsake urns, and pet urns made in ceramic, resin, and marble resin materials.

“We started creating these urns because every one of us are unique, so every one of us needs to have a unique urn,” said Aguilar. “Every one of our urns are handcrafted individually.”

Sacbé has been making urns in Mexico for eight years, and have worked with 250 funeral homes there. Their presence at ICCFA was their first time to present their work to U.S. funeral directors.

“We believe that pets are part of the family too,” said Aguilar. Their line of creative pet urns include colorful stars, dog and bone shapes, and paw prints. Their “Bongo” pet urn is a cute ceramic shape that holds cremated remains through a hole the bottom, with a planter in the top.

The word sacbé means a path to walk through – as in, the path we walk through from life to death.
