Crazy Festival Gets Quirky Media Coverage

Frozen Dead Guy Days is a most unusual festival, and it generates international media coverage. The Daily Mirror in the United Kingdom featured the festival in this Weird News story, ‘Enjoying being alive by celebrating death’ at the Frozen Dead Guy festival.

It was especially gratifying to see a mention of The Newly-Dead Game®, which first debuted at Frozen Dead Guy Days in 2011:

Some of the activities are designed to test essential skills, like tossing frozen salmon, while others are all about showmanship – the fancy-dress dives into the icy plunge pool are a must-see.

Another favourite is the Newly Dead Game, a variation on the “Mr & Mrs” gameshow where contestants are tested on how much they know about their partners’ wishes once they’ve passed away.

And just in time for the festivities, A Good Goodbye on FuneralRadio.com ran this interview with Kallista Alli, the co-event coordinator and music director of Frozen Dead Guys Days. The 28-minute podcast answers the questions about:

  • The story behind the festival – how a Norwegian grandfather became the Frozen Dead Guy of Nederland, Colorado.
  • Who attends this annual event – more than 20,000 people visited last year, to a town with a population of under 2,000!
  • What are the most popular activities – top crowd pleasers include the Parade of Hearses, the Coffin Races, the Costumed Polar Plunge and Grandpa’s Blue Ball.
