Laughing and Learning: A Practical End-of-Life Workshop
with Gail Rubin, Certified Thanatologist
Workshop Description: Most people aren’t comfortable with their mortality – only 25% of us do any end-of-life planning, such as advance medical directives and pre-need funeral planning – even though humans have a 100% mortality rate. That leaves 75% of us unprepared and devastated, not IF but WHEN there’s a death in the family. Don’t be like that.
The Laughing and Learning workshop will give you the tools and the inspiration to take practical steps for outlining your funeral plans/memorial celebration, drafting your own obituary and/or famous last words, and preparing advance medical directives. Funny film clips, supportive conversations and take-home printed materials are included in this workshop. Learn what you need to know BEFORE someone goes and dies.
Gail Rubin, CT, The Doyenne of Death®
Presenter: Gail Rubin, The Doyenne of Death®, is a Certified Thanatologist (a death educator), Certified Funeral Celebrant and pioneering Death Café hostess. She “knocked ‘em dead” with her TEDxABQ talk on end-of-life issues (watch the video at https://youtu.be/r9qR4ZiGX2Y). She’s the author of the award-winning book, A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die and her newest book is Hail and Farewell: Cremation Ceremonies, Templates and Tips. She regularly writes about funeral trends at The Family Plot Blog on her website, www.AGoodGoodbye.com. Gail’s motto (and famous last words): “Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, and talking about funerals won’t make you dead.”
