A recent Bizarro Death Cartoon showed two ladies at a viewing looking at a man’s body stretched out in a casket. The casket is “full couch,” meaning both ends are open, so you can see all the way from head to toes.
Most of the time, viewing of a body shows it from the waist up, with the bottom half of the casket staying closed. When that’s the case, you don’t need shoes for the deceased.
In this cartoon, one lady says to the other, “Wow. Those shoes are on their last legs.” OMG – the double meaning!
But seriously, if you are going to go “full couch” with a viewing, make sure the shoes are in viewable condition. (Speaking of viewable, notice the eyeball on the top of the lid?)
