The Pearls Before Swine comic strip has lots of commentary on mortality. Take this one, for example.
Pig and Goat are hanging out by a wall and talking. “I think that the cause of my death will be a piano falling on my head,” says Pig. (Who says stuff like that in real life?)
“That’s interesting,” replies Goat. “Did you know that 157,000 people from around the world will die on the same day as you?” “Wow,” says Pig.
“Wow: That’s a big number?” asks Goat. “Wow. That’s a big piano,” says Pig.
Of course, under ordinary circumstances, those 157,000 people who die on the same day aren’t going to die the same way. It’s interesting that less than 30% of us do any end-of-life planning or preparation. If it’s true 157,000 people die every day, why don’t more of us plan ahead?
