Today’s Pickles cartoon continues yesterday’s conversation between Grandpa Earl and his grandson Nelson on whether grandpa is going to die any time soon.
“I don’t want you to die, Grampa,” says Nelson. “Well, I’m not planning on it any time soon,” replies Earl. “Good,” says Nelson.
“But you know, there are far worse things than dying,” says Earl. Just then, Opal shows up and says, “I need you to take me and my sister to the fabric store.” “Case in point,” says Earl.
While Earl is not planning to die any time soon, I hope he has done his end-of-life planning. The only thing worse than having to go to the fabric store with your wife and her sister is dying without a will or funeral plans in place. And if he has a lingering illness that incapacitates him, Earl had better have advance medical directives and a medical power of attorney who can speak on his behalf when he can’t.
